Glashutte Original had a brilliant start into the Baselworld 2010:
After receiving the award “Goldene Unruh 2010” for the Senator Hand Date in February, GO's Senator Chronometer was awarded with the important title “Watch of the Year 2010” on Thursday 18th March 2010.

“Watch of the Year 2010” and “Goldene Unruh 2010”:

Glashütte Original simultaneously successful in two watch competitions With the emphasis clearly on aesthetics and precision

On Thursday 18th March 2010, numerous representatives from the watchmaking industry gathered in the Hotel Plaza in Basle to participate in the announcement of the winners of the “Watch of the Year 2010”.

For the 17th time in succession now, the specialist
magazine “Armbanduhren”, together with the “Welt am Sonntag”, called upon its readers to vote for their favourite timepieces.

A total of 159 timepieces were nominated in the category of men’s watches. The votes could be submitted either by postcard or online.

Shortly before the announcement of the winner, the excitement in the room rose to fever pitch.

When Peter Braun (on the right in the following picture), chief editor of Armbanduhren, declared that the Senator Chronometer had been chosen as “Watch of the Year 2010”, thunderous applause swept through the room.

Obviously moved and with great pride, Günter Wiegand (2nd from left), Managing Director of Glashütte Original, accepted the coveted award on behalf of all the employees of the Saxon watch manufacturer.

Among the first to congratulate were: Franz-Christoph Heel (left), publisher of Armbanduhren and Joachim Bessing (2nd from right), editor of the style section of “Welt am Sonntag”.

A total of 11,147 readers took part in the vote. Of these, 637 voted for the Senator Chronometer as winner.

The Senator Chronometer is the first officially certified chronometer from Glashütte Original and was presented for the first time in 2009.

The clear and elegant exterior conceals a specially designed, high-precision, perfect manual winding caliber 58-01.
Using a novel second-zero-stop-mechanism, it becomes much easier for the wearer to set the exact time.
When winding the crown, the time display is stopped, the second hand jumps to zero and remains there.
At the same time, the minute hand is also moved to the next full minute index.
If you wind the crown to set the time, the minute hand always rests only on the full minute indices.
This means that the correct relationship of the displayed seconds and minutes is always retained.
Principally, however, the timepiece won favour among the voting public due to its elegant aesthetics.
The Senator Hand Date was also a winner in the vote for the “Goldene Unruh 2010” in February: This prize, awarded jointly by the “Uhrenmagazin” and by the news magazine “Focus” is presented in a total of five different categories.

Glashütte Original was very happy with its 1st place in the category of up to 5,000 EUR.
