Rolex, Swiss Watch Maker, Reports 15.7 Kilos of Stolen Gold, LCI Says

Rolex Group, the Swiss maker of luxury watches, reported a theft of 15.7 kilograms of gold at its foundry on the outskirts of Geneva, La Chaine Info television station said on its website, without citing anyone.

An employee at the Plan-les-Ouates factory admitted he stole 5 kilos of gold and has been taken into custody, France’s LCI said.

Virginie Chevailler, a spokeswoman for Geneva-based Rolex, confirmed a theft, declining to provide details or comment on the report.

“There is an ongoing investigation,” she said. “I have no further comments to make.”

Rolex is owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation.
